Privacy policy

I run The Estate Table at Copperopolis from Copperopolis, California. This page says what personal information I collect, why I collect it, who I share it with, and what you can do about it. I wrote it to be read.

What I collect

I collect only what I need to build your plan and keep your account working.

Your email address, which is how you sign in. There are no passwords.
Your name, if you give it to me.
Your consultation answers: how you cook and eat, your household, your schedule and your budget.
Your allergens and diets, and those of the people you cook for. I treat these as sensitive.
Your taste profile: your answers to the Palate Profile questions, and any palate game activity once the games open, such as what you pick, skip or hover over.
Your learning progress through the library, such as which modules you have opened.
Anything you send me through a contact form, such as your message and phone number.
Basic technical data your browser sends every site, such as your device type and the pages you request, kept in server logs for security.

I do not collect payment card numbers. Payments are handled by Stripe, and I see only the plan, the status and the last four digits Stripe shows me.

Why I collect it

To sign you in and keep your account safe.
To build recipe packs and meal plans that fit your tastes, your diet and your household.
To keep people with allergies safe. If I am not sure an ingredient is free of an allergen you listed, I hide the recipe from you. I would rather show you fewer recipes than a risky one.
To save your place in the library.
To answer you when you write to me.
To improve the site and the recipes, using combined results rather than your individual answers.

I do not sell your personal information. I do not share it with advertisers. I do not use it for advertising profiles.

Who I share it with

I use a small number of service providers. They process information for me and may not use it for their own purposes.

Supabase, which hosts the database and handles sign-in.
Vercel, which hosts the website.
Bunny.net, which delivers videos, audio and other library media.
Sanity, which holds the journal content. It receives no personal information about members.
Stripe, to take payment.
Instacart, once a direct connection is available and only if you choose to send a shopping list there. I would send it only the list you ask to send. That connection is not active yet.
An email service, to send sign-in links and confirmations.

I may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person.

How long I keep it

Raw palate game activity is kept for 12 months. After that I keep only combined, anonymous totals that cannot be traced back to you.
Your account, profile, consultation answers and allergens stay until you delete your account.
Messages you send me are kept until I have answered them and for a reasonable time afterward in case you write back, and then deleted after 12 months.
Questions you send through the help page or the support page may be used, with names, email addresses, phone numbers and other personal details removed and without any link to you, to write the public answers on the help page. That anonymous copy does not say who asked and is not deleted with your messages.
Server logs are kept for a short period, then deleted.

Your choices and rights

You can ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, give you a copy, or delete it. Write to me at the address below and I will answer within 45 days. You can delete your allergens, diets and taste answers from your profile at any time.

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you these rights, and I honor them for everyone. You also have the right to be treated the same whether or not you use them.

To unsubscribe from marketing email, use the link in any email. Sign-in links and receipts are not marketing and will still arrive.

Cookies and tracking

I use cookies that keep you signed in and remember simple preferences. I do not use advertising cookies, and I do not track you across other websites. I use cookieless analytics from Vercel (Web Analytics and Speed Insights) to count visits and measure how fast pages load. They set no cookies and do not follow you across sites, and they do not use anything you tell me in your profile. Because I do not track you across sites, I do not respond differently to a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

Children

The site is for adults. It is not meant for children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect their information. You may tell me about the allergies and diets of children you cook for. That is information about your household, given by you as their parent or guardian.

You can add family members to your table as household profiles: you answer for them or hand them the phone, they have no sign-in, I never contact them, and their profiles are deleted when you remove them or delete your account.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with providers who protect it. No system is perfectly secure. If I learn of a breach that affects you, I will tell you.

Changes to this policy

When I change this policy I will update the date at the top. If the change is material, I will also email the address on your account before it takes effect.
