Health disclaimer
Last updated October 5, 2026
The Estate Table is about cooking and learning, not medicine. Please read this before you rely on anything on the site for your health.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical, nutritional or dietary advice. Recipes, substitutions, nutrition figures and plans are suggestions. If you have a medical condition, a medical diet, or a serious allergy, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before you change what you eat.
Allergens: always read the label
I tag ingredients and recipes for allergens, and I hide recipes that might contain one you listed. When I am unsure, I hide. These tools are an aid, not a guarantee. Ingredients change between brands and batches, and recipes can be changed by substitutions. Read the label of every product you buy, every time, and contact the maker if you are unsure.
Cross-contact is real. Foods that are naturally free of an allergen can pick it up while they are grown, milled or packed. Lentils and oats often carry gluten, for example. If you have celiac disease or a severe allergy, buy products certified free of the allergen you avoid.
Diet labels
Labels such as vegetarian, vegan, keto or lower sugar describe how a recipe is built. They are not medical claims and they are not a treatment for any condition. Lower sugar means less added and total sugar than a typical version of the dish, not a figure that suits every body.
Nutrition figures
Nutrition numbers are calculated from reference data for the ingredients as written. They are estimates. Your ingredients, brands and portions will change them.
Kitchen safety
Cook meat, poultry, fish and eggs to safe temperatures. Keep raw and cooked food apart. Cure, ferment and pickle only by following the steps exactly, and discard anything that smells or looks wrong. Be careful with knives, hot oil and open flame.
